Sergio ‘Yoreme’ Mendoza stopped Ricardo Sandoval in round five to win the WBA and WBC flyweight titles in Chicago on 10 October 2026, local time.
RPC’s 11 October report records three knockdowns before the stoppage and puts Mendoza’s new record at 28–1, with 24 knockouts. He had stepped in after the withdrawal of Oscar Collazo.
The celebration carried more than sporting relief. Mendoza cried after the victory and dedicated it to his brother, who died in August, according to RPC’s account of the post-fight scene.
At 112lb, a replacement challenger left with two world belts. That confirmed result is the starting point; his next opponent and any rematch arrangements are separate questions, not part of this announcement.
