Vergil Ortiz Jr and Keith Thurman are scheduled for 5 December in Glendale, Arizona. PBC lists their contest as a 12-round middleweight co-main event on the Benavidez–Cieslak card.

The new development in our 30 October briefing is Oscar De La Hoya’s assessment. In comments reported by BoxingScene, he said Thurman was not the first choice and dismissed his chances of winning. That is the promoter’s judgement, not an established outcome.

Ortiz enters with 24 wins, 22 inside the distance. Thurman, a former unified welterweight champion, is returning from a stoppage loss to Sebastian Fundora. The matchup is confirmed; how competitive it will be is the argument still to be settled.
