Dalton Smith retained the WBC light-welterweight title against Alberto Puello in Sheffield on 24 October. Two judges had it 115–113 for Smith; the third scored it 116–112 for Puello.

The split decision took Smith to 20–0 in his first title defence. Puello’s experience made this a much closer contest than the unbeaten record alone might suggest.
